Barstool Sports may have a place for you, aspiring social media moguls.
Love sports? Sports betting? Spend your life on social media platforms? Dote on Barstool Sports’ mix of sports, gossip, bizarre news, viral videos, fratboy humor?
If you live in or near Detroit, Boston, or Denver – towns in states where their part-owner, Penn National Gaming, plans to launch soon its mobile Barstool sports betting app, Dave Portnoy and the Stoolie gang might have a job for you.
A city in New Jersey, while not named, would also make sense since NJ is on their horizon, though the Garden State lacks a sports hub town.
Penn National wants Barstool launched ASAP in Michigan
Barstool could launch in Michigan later this month. The Michigan Gaming Control Board meets on Tuesday, Dec. 8, according to our sister publication, PlayMichigan.
Penn National’s leader Jay Snowden wants the Barstool app live in Michigan as soon as it is approved. So far, the app is only live in PA, the regional gambling company’s home state.
They got a late start in the Pennsylvania sports betting market, but that would not be the case in the Wolverine State.
Looking for city social media site runners
Under the headline We Want You, and an illustration of Portnoy dressed as Uncle Sam, the irreverent Barstool site yesterday posted:
In our never ending conquest to get to the moon Barstool Sports is expanding its network and launching social media accounts in every major city across the country. Think Barstool Boston, Barstool Detroit, Barstool Denver, etc. and we are looking for social media managers to run these accounts centered around these cities.
The post pointed to their Twitter site @BarstoolPhilly.
The listing cited Twitter, but other social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok platforms are also mentioned.
Barstool has a qualifications list
Listed qualifications include:
- This person should eat, sleep, and shit the internet.

Not for everyone
There were many retweets, comments, and likes.
But not everyone hailed the news.
For instance, responded: “If barstool wasn’t literally the scum of sports media, people might actually be interested.”
And one tweeted response questioned the salary, which is unstated.
The listing states positions are paid and include an incentive program.
A spokesperson for Barstool did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.

- The Barstool Sportsbook app is planning on launching its platform in every state with legal sports betting by the end of 2021.
- The increase of states’ interest in online betting platforms has sparked since the COVID-19 pandemic affected all the brick-and-mortar casinos.
- Penn National has recently signed a deal with Global Payments Gaming Solutions to bring engaging experiences and simplify payments for the Barstool Sportsbook app.
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – The officials of the minority-owned online gambling platform Barstool Sportsbook plan on launching its mobile app in every state with legal sports betting by the end of 2021.
Jay Snowden, Penn National Gaming CEO, believes the app will launch in states around the country after launching in Pennsylvania last month and receiving 21,000 downloads per day on the debut weekend.
“As you get into 2021, I think you should expect for us to be in every state that’s legal, where we operate and can launch by the end of 2021,” said Snowden. “We’ll be in well over a dozen states by the end of the calendar year.”
The company also plans on launching in Michigan in November and has realized that the success of the app is only the start of growth in online legal sports betting.
The push for online sports betting platforms in many states did not start or even begin to be considered until the coronavirus pandemic affected retail casinos around the country.
“It’s very high on the priority list right now because the couple of states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania had authorized [sports betting] pre-COVID,” Snowden said. “People went online, they were still able to participate in casino gambling, sports wagering, whatever sports were available, and other states took note of that. I think you’re going to see this proliferate much quicker going forward than maybe most thought about at the beginning of this year.”
Currently, Barstool Sportsbook is only available in the Pennsylvania sports betting market.
Taking Steps In 2020
In an effort to further grow, Penn National Gaming has also partnered with Global Payments Gaming Solutions to provide online sports betting solutions to boost the Barstool sportsbook app.
The gaming provider will deliver engaging and exciting experiences that connect online and retail gaming through a multi-channel approach along with simplifying the account funding on the app.
“The Barstool Sportsbook app has been well received by Penn National’s customers,” saidChristopher Justice, President of Global Payments Gaming Solutions. “We are pleased to be a part of this key initiative as the industry ushers in a new era in sports betting that prioritizes convenience and flexibility while giving users a superior, modern gaming experience.”
Global Payments Gaming Solutions will also be supporting the Barstool Sportsbook app in every future launch in states around the country.
