Tipping is optional… if you’re okay with getting dirty looks and getting called out by other patrons for being cheap. We now live in a world where tipping really isn’t that optional anymore ifyou want to have an enjoyable experience. Brick-and-mortar casinos are no exception.

The problem, though, is that most people who aren’t casino regulars aren’t sure who tip, when to tip, and how much to tip.

I’ve got good news for you. I spend way too much time at the casino and have a lot of friends who work in the industry. What I’m hopefully going to be able to do today is give you a quickbreakdown of the “proper” tipping rules that you should be following to ensure a great casino experience.

Local clubs (San Jose), poker dealers are in the box 6 hours out of your 8 hr shift. Most games are Limit Holdem, around 42 hands hr. (No stud, maybe one Omaha game, and maybe a fifth of the games are Spread Limit). Roughly $250 in tips at Bay101 per shift. (minus tipping floor, lead floor, chiprunners, etc). A professional poker dealer can average roughly 35 hands per hour depending on the game they are dealing. Limit games go faster while no-limit games generally take a little longer per hand on average. Most dealers are paid via tips, usually from each hand dealtl. Unlike regular cash games, dealers are not tipped for each pot won, as no one is going to give a dealer a tournament chip. (And the dealer would not be pleased to receive one as a joke). This is why poker tournament dealers are tipped at the end of the tournament – after tips are pooled and collected from all who donated.
